Arsenal are heading off to the US this week as they are scheduled to take on Gunners legend Thierry Henry and are celebrating their first ever trip to New York by attempting some ‘New Yorker’ accents.
Yes, you did read that correctly; Arsene Wenger’s side will take on the Red Bulls in a friendly match at their Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey and Gunners officials have decided the players needed to ‘blend in’.
Arsenal's trip to America will be only their second of four official pre-season friendlies and the only one to take place outside of the UK. Last Saturday saw them take on Boreham Wood and the Emirates Cup will take place after the New York trip and a training camp in Austria.
Cringeworthy or hilarious?
Arsenal’s official YouTube account have come up with possibly the most embarrassing promo video for a pre-season tour yet. They did this by getting the first team quartet of Kieran Gibbs, Carl Jenkinson, Segre Gnabry and Mathieu Flamini to attempt some New York accents.
Think of your ‘classic’ phrases such as ‘forget about it’ and ‘I am walking here’ in atrociously bad attempts at the Brooklyn drawl, probably inspired by countless gangster films set in the Big Apple or The Sopranos.
GMS won’t be too critical though, we realise it’s just a bit of fun and there is the possibility that it is so bad that it may have become funny – anyway, check it out yourself below.
What did you think of the Arsenal players’ New York accents? Funny or embarrassing? Could you do them better (only answer this if you aren’t actually from New York)? Let us know by leaving a comment below…
