Louis van Gaal
New Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is set to take charge of his side for the first time against LA Galaxy, and the Red Devils players will be desperate to impress their Dutch coach.
Van Gaal, who has taken up the Old Trafford hot-seat immediately following his ventures with the Dutch national side at this summer's World Cup, will be looking to give a number United's stars a chance to impress throughout pre-season.
The United boss' main focus this evening will be improving the fitness levels of his players ahead of next month's big kick-off. While United are still in the early stages of their preparations for the new campaign, Red Devils fans will still be hoping the stars put on a fine performance against David Beckham's former club.
The new Manchester United coach has, however, called on the club's hierarchy to asses future pre-season trips after insisting that the lengthy tours act as poor preparation for the new season.
The Red Devils have been all over the world in previous time, having played in Sydney, South Africa and Shanghai in the last couple of years alone. Juan Mata and Co. will have to make do with the trip this year, however, as United begin their pre-season tour.
Manchester United: De Gea, Smalling, Jones, Evans, Valencia, Fletcher (c), Herrera, Shaw, Mata, Welbeck, Rooney
LA Galaxy: Penedo; Gargan, Meyer, Leonardo, DLG; Ishizaki, Sarvas, Juninho, Husidic, Keane, Zardes
With this being United's first game on tour, the Red Devils may well start slowly, and could even fall behind in the early stages. But, expect United, with Van Gaal watching on, to quickly sure things up and impress the watching crowd by grabbing a few goals for themselves.
It's likely that Van will make a number of changes throughout the clash, meaning United may struggle to find their best rhythm at times. Ultimately, though, United should be too strong for the Galaxy, and we're tipping them to win this one 3-1. Van Gaal, however, will be more concerned with his player's fitness levels, as the Red Devils look ahead to the start of the 2014/15 campaign.
