Manchester United are preparing to make a fresh bid of £42.5m for Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal, according to The Metro.
The Chilean international is one of Europe's hottest properties in the transfer market at the moment, and Manchester United are desperate to fend off interest from Premier League rivals Chelsea, and want to secure the deal before any other top European clubs reveal their interest.
Along with Chelsea, Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool are also reportedly keen on signing the Chilean after he enjoyed yet another successful season in Serie A with eventual champions, Juventus.
The 27-year-old is a crucial part of Juve's plans for the forthcoming season, alongside Frenchman Paul Pogba, but the club also admitted that if big enough offers come in for the duo, they will consider selling due to financial reasons.
It was first reported that United would offer around £40m for the holding-midfielder and offer him a contract worth roughly £200k-a-week, but reports are now suggesting that United will bump that offer up by £2.5m to make it £42.5m.
The offer hasn't officially been made yet as Louis Van Gaal is still settling to life in Manchester with his new squad, and is keen to evaluate his whole team before making any more signings, but according to numerous reports, a formal bid is likely to be made in the next few days, which will give Juve a huge dilemma.
Vidal joined Juventus from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen back in 2011 for a fee shy of £10million, and he has gone on to make nearly 100 appearances for the Serie A club, scoring 28 goals along the way and has become a crucial asset to their midfield alongside Pogba and Italian veteran Andrea Pirlo.
Juventus are desperate to keep their star-man, but are aware that if more offers come in, they will be under pressure to give in and accept.
To sweeten the deal, it's believed that United will offer either winger Nani, or striker Javier Hernandez as part of the deal, and Vidal's agent, Fernando Felicevich, is already keeping close tabs on the potential swap deal as he looks ready to hold formal talks with the Premier League outfit.
Vidal would be Van Gaal's third signing at Old Trafford, after already wrapping up deals for Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw.
