This is GW News from Caves Valley Golf Club in Baltimore Maryland. Today is the start of the inaugural International Crown. The course is in fantastic shape and some of the world’s very best players are onsite and ready to compete for first ever International Crown.

Rich Thomas says "We’ve got I think eight former world number one ranked players in the world currently with Stacey Lewis leading the way, former number one Yani Tseng. The eight countries are the United States, The Republic of Korea, Japan, Sweden, Spain, Thailand Chinese Taipei and Australia."

Azahara Munoz - "The build-up has been incredible but sometimes that can be disappointing but actually it’s been really the opposite like coming here, the golf course is amazing, there are already so many people that are watching. Everything like the team bags, the uniforms I think all of us are super happy and really impressed that you guys are putting this up for us and I think everybody is really excited for the event and just can wait for Thursday to come and start playing."

The match ups have been announced and our pick of the day is Rolex ranking world number one Stacey Lewis and Lexi Thompson against former world number one Yani Tseng and Phoebe Yao of Chinese Taipei.

Also underway today is the Senior Open championships at Royal Porthcawl. It’s the first time the event has been held in Wales and Colin Montgomerie will be hoping to make a historic treble after wins at the Senior PGA championship and the US Senior Open.

Colin Montgomerie, "I thought at 50 I'd be a lot older feeling than I am. Bodily yes, I'm 80 but mentally no, you're sharp and you're competitive. Your juices start flowing again and you think okay, if Bernhard Langer can do this at 50 and 57 and Tom Watson nearly win the Open at 59, well come on, I'll do this for a few years.”

That’s all for today, we’ll be back tomorrow with all the action from here and Royal Porthcawl. In the meantime you can check us out on Instagram and we’re on Facebook and twitter @golfingworldtv.
