Javier Manquillo is expected to complete his season long loan move to Liverpool by the end of this week, as the Reds seek to bolster their options in defence, according to The Guardian.

Manquillo is highly-rated by several clubs and Rodgers sees the young 20-year-old as the ideal target after missing out on both Ben Davies and Alberto Moreno. Liverpool are looking to continue their summer spending spree, by adding the young right sided defender from Atletico Madrid on loan.

Bolstering the defence

Although the left-back slot remains a issue of concern for Liverpool, having missing out on the Tottenham Hotspur bound Davies and Sevilla left-back Moreno, Rodgers is keen on bringing in more defensive options as Liverpool prepare another assault on the Premier League. With the added Champions League competition Rodgers knows how important it is to have a big squad available to him.

Manquillo is expected to sign on a season long loan with a view to a permanent deal after only making four appearances for Atletico last term. The player has turned down moves to Getafe, Rayo Vallecano and Marseille in order to play for the Anfield outfit, and was also wanted by Arsenal.

Young guns to get Liverpool chance

Rodgers is known for giving youth a chance, with the likes of Raheem Sterling, Jordan Ibe, Suso, Andre Wisdom and Jon Flanagan all benefiting since the Northern Irishman took over. It's likely this is one of the reasons why Manquillo has turned own other offers to join the cause.

Liverpool are expected to announce the signings of Loic Remy, Divock Origi and Dejan Lovren by the end of this week, taking the club's summer spending to around the £100million mark.
