Manchester United have indicated that they have no interest in the acquisition of Arturo Vidal from Juventus, despite numerous suggestions to the contrary. This is according to Ian Ladyman of the Daily Mail, who claims the club are clear that the player is not under consideration.
Manchester United links
Vidal has been linked with Manchester United for some time as Louis van Gaal seemingly strives to further reinforce his midfield before the transfer deadline. Ander Herrera has already been recruited, but a more combative player is supposedly required.
Manchester United are short in this area, even more so after the long-term injury sustained by Michael Carrick - something that was reported to have hastened a move for Vidal. The club, it was claimed, were prepared to pay €50 million for the Chilean.
However, there have been growing suggestions that the deal is non-starter, with Vidal himself supposedly ruling out the proposed transfer, and it would now appear that Manchester United had no interest in the first place.
Ladyman tweeted: “Twitters obsession with #mufc and Vidal continues. Definite message of 'no interest' from the club, tho.”
This does not, however, mean that the prospective deal is definitely off, with this the information of only one journalist - albeit a reputable one. Several others have reported the opposite, and will be interesting to see how the story progresses over the coming weeks.
An excellent signing
One thing that is for certain is that Vidal would be an excellent signing. His power, determination and application make him well suited to the rigours of Premier League football, and his ability to score regularly from midfield is a highly valued commodity.
Last season Vidal was able to contribute 18 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions for Juventus, while he also provided five assists. Manchester United’s midfield, meanwhile, paled into insignificance.
His performances have naturally led to links with numerous clubs, not just Manchester United. Real Madrid have been credited with interest, although the signing of James Rodriguez could put paid to a deal in this window.

The next Steven Gerrard?
Perhaps the most intriguing link is Liverpool. The club had appeared to have completed much of their business before this summer market even opened, but will be required to re-enter following the departure of Luis Suarez.
With the money from this transfer now to reinvest, Vidal is reported to have been identified as a target. Could it be that the 27-year-old is viewed as a successor to Steven Gerrard at Anfield? Perhaps, but what a coup it would be regardless.
