PSG join Manchester United in Koke transfer race

Published 1 Comments

Paris Saint-Germain have joined the race to sign highly-rated Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke, who has also attracted admiring glances from Manchester United, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

TalkSPORT reports how the Spain international is on the summer transfer radar of numerous top European clubs following a series of impressive performances at the Vicente Calderon last season.

The 22-year-old was one of Diego Simeone's star performers last term, helping Los Rojiblancos lift the La Liga title and reach the final of the Champions League.

Koke is valued at £50 million by Atletico Madrid, so it would take a big-money bid to prise him from the Spanish capital before the close of the window.

Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal has been credited with an interest in bringing the player to Old Trafford, despite having already added fellow midfielder Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao.

Manchester United are not alone in their admiration for the talented playmaker, though, with Premier League rivals Liverpool also monitoring developments closely, as Brendan Rodgers considers how to reinvest some of the £75 million cash windfall received from Luis Suarez's recent sale to Barcelona.

The Reds have already recruited four new players at Anfield this summer, following the captures of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can and Lazar Markovic, and are looking to strengthen even further ahead of their return to Europe's elite club competition this season.

La Liga interest

Luis Enrique is believed to be another follower of Koke as he looks to bring in a replacement for Cesc Fabregas at Camp Nou, after the former Arsenal captain agreed to join Chelsea earlier this summer.

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is also weighing up Koke as a possible reinforcement at the Santiago Bernabeu, despite already signing Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich and James Rodriguez from AS Monaco.

PSG task

All things considered, PSG will still face stiff competition for the Atletico Madrid star's signature, and that's providing they can convince the club to sell another important player, having already lost the likes of Diego Costa, Filipe Luis and the loan services of Thibaut Courtois this summer.

Laurent Blanc has successfully completed deals for David Luiz and Serge Aurier, and is rumoured to also be keen to bring Argentine winger Angel di Maria to Parc des Princes.

However, with that prospective transfer in mind it means that the Ligue 1 giants would need to sell before even thinking about splashing out on Koke, with Javier Pastore the most likely departure.
