Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has rubbed salt into the wounds of Liverpool by hinting they are not a big enough club to secure his services. The Reds enquired about the France international’s services a fortnight ago, but were left embarrassed when his agents indicated they were not on their client’s elite wish-list.
This is according to the Daily Star, who claim that Real Madrid are prepared to sell the 26-year-old after spending £65 million on Colombia star James Rodriguez from AS Monaco.
Liverpool seeking Luis Suarez replacement
Liverpool have already spent big-money acquiring the signature of exciting 20-year-old Serbia international Lazar Markovic from Benfica - and are also close to tying up deals for Loic Remy, from Queens Park Rangers, and Lille’s Belgium international Divock Origi.
However, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is hoping to sign a high-profile like-for-like replacement for the departed Luis Suarez, who joined Barcelona for around £75 million earlier this summer.
The Uruguay international finished last season as the Premier League’s top scorer - and Rodgers knows that replacing his goals will be nigh-on impossible unless big money is spent on a world-class replacement.

Arsenal: Benzema’s likely destinations?
Chelsea are less likely to sign Benzema, having brought club legend Didier Drogba back to Stamford Bridge, while PSG are currently preoccupied with striking a deal for the Real Madrid star’s teammate Angel di Maria.
Benzema could be forced out of the Bernabeu if Real Madrid secure the services of Colombia international Radamel Falcao, who could join Los Blancos on an initial season-long loan deal before a permanent transfer is completed.
