Premier League trio Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal are all monitoring the progress of the Bundesliga's Brazilian star Roberto Firmino with a view to a £20m summer offer towards the close of the transfer window, according to multiple sources in the British press.
Firmino burst onto the scene with Hoffenheim last season and scored a fantastic 16 goals from an advanced midfield position, while also setting up a further 12 strikes for the free-scoring side.
That consistent level of performance prompted Liverpool to bid £12m for the 22-year-old earlier this summer, but the Daily Star believe the Reds are ready to return with a bigger bid before the window slams shut, while Arsenal are also very keen to sign the playmaker as a long-term replacement for Santi Cazorla.
Chelsea are also interested though and despite signing veteran Didier Drogba could yet make a move to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new campaign, according to the Daily Mail.
Firmino is capable of playing on the left or right flank, in the number 10 role or even further forward just off a lone front man, possessing the kind of versatility that would make him a fantastic squad option for any leading light in the Premier League.
Hoffenheim hold the key
Any summer deal for the clinical finisher though will not come cheap, because Hoffenheim managed to tie Firmino down to new contract last season which runs until 2017.
That was a smart move by the Bundesliga side, who are now waiting to see if Liverpool return with an improved offer for their most prized asset, or indeed if Arsenal or Chelsea believe they need another exciting attacking option to make the difference when it matters most next season.
