Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers could make a move for Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez, according to The Daily Star.
The same report has suggested that the Reds boss won't move for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku or Swansea City ace Wilfried Bony, with Rodgers believing that Rodriguez is the perfect replacement for Luis Suarez.
It appears, then, that Rodgers has identified the Saints ace, who scored 15 league goals last term, as the man to replace Uruguayan superstar Suarez, who was offloaded to Barcelona earlier on in this transfer window.
Rodgers seemingly wants to bring the England international to Merseyside, despite the player currently being on the sidelines with a cruciate knee injury. The 24-year-old will in fact be out of action for the start of the season, and isn't set to return until October.
Rodriguez was certainly impressive in the 2013/14 campaign, but it remains to be seen as to whether he's ready to depart the St Mary's for Anfield in this market.
If the forward does move to Rodgers' side, then he will be the fourth Saints player to make the transfer this summer. Liverpool have already splashed the cash on Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren in this window.
While Southampton are struggling to keep hold of their top players, Rodgers appears to be building a squad ready to compete in Europe next season. The Reds ended the 2013/14 season as runners-up, meaning they are set to embark upon a Champions League campaign.
Liverpool fans will certainly be excited ahead of the new season, with another Southampton ace potentially on his way to the club.
Bony and Lukaku
And, with Rodriguez having been identified as the man Rodgers wants to take to Anfield, it appears the club won't swoop for 25-year-old Bony, who has been rated at £20m by the same report.
Lukaku, meanwhile, who has been rated at £30m, also appears to be off Rodgers' radar, as the club go in search of adding to their front line. It had previously appeared that the club would complete the signing of QPR striker Loic Remy, but the French international failed his medical at the club, meaning the deal fell through.
