Arsenal sign World Cup star David Ospina

Arsenal have announced today that Colombia's World Cup hero David Ospina has signed on a long term contract.

The 25 year old starred in an impressive World Cup display for Colombia, which saw them reach the Quarter-Finals, before losing to Brazil. During a six-year spell at French club Nice, Ospina made 189 appearance, and had was regarded as one of the best 'keepers in Ligue 1.


Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has had this to say on the transfer; ""David Ospina is an excellent goalkeeper, with good experience and a proven record of performing with Nice and Colombia. 

"He will add strength to our squad and we are very pleased that he will be joining us."

Ospina's previous manager Claude Puel told Arsenal fans to expect 'quality' from their new signing.


Puel spoke to Sky Sports on the subject, saying: "It's a good affair for Arsenal because he's a very good player. You will see next season the quality of this player.

"It's fantastic for him. It's important for him to try another league, another club and Arsenal is a fantastic club for him. You saw in the World Cup how important a goalkeeper he is."

The Colombian international has is Wenger's second big-name signing this summer, after ex-Barcelona star Alexis Sanchez joined for a reported £35 million fee.
