Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has revealed that Wilfried Zaha will play in attack against Inter Milan tonight, reports Sky Sports.
Zaha, who still hasn't featured on United's tour of the US, has endured a difficult start to his Old Trafford career. Under David Moyes last term, the ex-Crystal Palace star was shipped out on loan to Cardiff City after struggling for opportunities at the Theatre of Dreams.
And now it appears that the new United boss Louis van Gaal is struggling to find a place in the side for the England international. With the Dutchman having implemented a new 3-5-2 system at United, it appears that Zaha can't play in the wing-back role for the club.
Zaha, then, will be handed an opportunity in the second 45 minutes against Inter Milan, but will have to play as a striker.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Van said: "He will have to play as a striker as he can’t play the other positions in the system.
"Ashley Young can play as a wing-back. Zaha cannot do that so he will be a striker.
"I have spoken with him and I think he can do it. We will see. He will play the second 45 minutes of this game and will play as a striker."
It remains to be seen as to whether the winger can take to the new system and force his way into Van Gaal's first-team plans, but he may have to try and take his opportunity in United's front line for the foreseeable future.
If Zaha does adopt the striker position, then he will have to battle the likes of Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez, who will all be hoping for starring roles under the new regime.
United fans will be hoping the club can secure their third straight win in the US this evening as they play Italian outfit Inter. Van Gaal's side have made a terrific start to their tour, having picked up victories over LA Galaxy and AS Roma.
The Red Devils will take on their former captain Nemanja Vidic this evening, after the Serbian departed Old Trafford at the end of the 2013/14 campaign. United, meanwhile, are yet to announce their new skipper, with Van Gaal seemingly still making his decision.
