The Colombian winger is attracting interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs after some strong performances at the World Cup where he provided more assists for his team-mates than any other player at the tournament.
Both Manchester United and Barcelona have been heavily linked with the 26-year-old over the past few weeks - although they will likely have to pay a hefty sum in order to secure his services. During the World Cup Fiorentina bought out the remainder of his economic rights from Udinese which took the total fee they have paid for him to around €20 million, and given his showing in Brazil they will hold out for much more than that.
Indeed, Fiorentina chief Daniele Prade admitted earlier today that a bid in the region of €50 million would be enough to persuade him to sell up. However according to Marca, Barcelona have decided to go about their business in a different manner altogether in order to beat Manchester United to the punch.
Manchester United blow
They say that Barcelona aren't willing to cough up €40 million let alone €50 million for the Colombian, so have asked him to put pressure on Fiorentina to sell up, and submit a transfer request. A similar approach was taken with former Valencia defender Jérémy Mathieu, who arrived at the Nou Camp last week.
The news is likely to infuriate Manchester United and new boss Louis van Gaal, who are believed to be working on a deal to land Cuadrado in this transfer window. Marca say that the player favours a move to Barcelona, although the Red Devils are said to have offered €38 million already, and if the Catalan club can't match that figure then he may be Old Trafford bound regardless.
Van Gaal wishlist
Van Gaal is believed to have placed Cuadrado near the top of his transfer wishlist this summer, and given executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward's claims that they are willing and able to break the transfer record this summer, then they could have the upper hand over their Catalan rivals.
Manchester United are expected to spend big before the close of the transfer window. Moves for Thomas Vermaelen, Arturo Vidal and Mats Hummels have all been mooted - however as it stands they've only been able to land Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw.
