Louis van Gaal has enjoyed the perfect start to his Manchester United reign, and has quickly made an impression on followers of the Red Devils.
Back-to-back wins against LA Galaxy and AS Roma have given United fans a new sense of optimism ahead of the 2014/15 campaign, but Van Gaal will still be hoping to add to his squad ahead of the new campaign.
And, if reports coming out of Chile today are to be believed, Juventus superstar Arturo Vidal has agreed personal terms with the club ahead of a £63.3million move to the Theatre of Dreams. United of course have already completed the signings of Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera, so we're going to take a look at Van Gaal's potential United team for the big kick-off next month.
Manchester United potential XI - 3-5-2
Goalkeeper: David de Gea
Manchester United endured a nightmare campaign under David Moyes in the 2013/14 season, but David de Gea was without a doubt the standout performer for the club. The Spanish star has gone from strength-to-strength in recent time, and looks set to be the club's No.1 'keeper for the long term.
Manchester United fans will be hoping the Spanish shot-stopper hits top form under Van Gaal once again next term, but the Spaniard will be hoping for a better protection from his defence.
Back-three: Jonny Evans, Thomas Vermaelen, Phil Jones
With the new system implemented at Old Trafford, it remains to be seen as to which players take up the three centre-half positions at the club for the 2014/15 season. United, of course, lost the experienced duo of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic at the back end of last season, meaning the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Co. will have to step up this term.
And we've tipped Jones to secure a starting berth against Swansea City on August 16, alongside Jonny Evans and Arsenal skipper Thomas Vermaelen. Van Gaal certainly seems determined to land the Belgian ace in this market, and he could have a key role to play at Old Trafford next term.
Wing-backs: Antonio Valencia, Luke Shaw
Luke Shaw will be hoping to thrive at Old Trafford under Van Gaal in the wing-back position. Following the exit of Frenchman Patrice Evra, Shaw will now have a huge role to play at the Theatre of Dreams next term, and will be targeting success in his debut season.
The England international, much like Antonio Valencia, could prove a natural in the role. Ecuadorian Valencia has struggled at times throughout his United career, but has always proves handy in attack and defence. His fitness should help him shine as he competes with Rafael da Silva for the right wing-back position.
Midfield: Ander Herrera, Arturo Vidal, Juan Mata
Manchester United fans have already the influence that Ander Herrera can bring to the team. The new Spanish recruit already looks at home in a red shirt, having enjoyed a successful opening couple of games.
And, United fans will be hoping that Herrera is partnered by Vidal next term. The transfer saga involving the Chilean star has gone on for some time now but, with the latest reports indicating that he's agreed a deal with the club, it may only be a matter of time before he joins the club.
Juan Mata, meanwhile, could excel in the new system at Old Trafford. The former Chelsea star has struggled to find a role at United so far, but it appears that Van Gaal is ready to give him every opportunity to succeed at the club.
Strikers: Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney
Van Gaal will certainly be hoping to get the best out of Van Persie and Rooney for the up-coming season. The duo have shown glimpses of the partnership that they could strike up in the last two years, but are yet to deliver on a consistent basis as a pairing.
With Juan Mata pulling the strings behind them, Manchester United fans will be hoping they create a lethal partnership for the new season.
