Chelsea look to continue unbeaten run against Vitesse Arnhem

Published 1 Comments

Chelsea continue their preparation for the 2014/15 Premier League campaign with a friendly encounter against Eredivisie outfit Vitesse at the Arnhem Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Unbeaten run

The Blues are yet to taste defeat during this pre-season campaign, with Sunday's narrow 2-1 win over NK Olimpija Ljubljana preceded by a draw with RZ Pellets WAC and consecutive victories over lower-league English opposition in the form of Wycombe Wanderers and fellow basement-dwellers AFC Wimbledon.

Chelsea will be well aware of the talent that Vitesse possess, of course, with the Dutch club - who finished sixth in their domestic league last season - having taken several of their youngsters on loan during recent campaigns.

Team news

In terms of Chelsea's thinking for this particular clash, Jose Mourinho has a wealth of options to choose from.

With his World Cup weary internationals and new signings now firmly in the fold, the Portuguese will seek to strike the correct balance between youth and experience as the new top-flight season draws ever closer.

As was the case in Slovenia, it seems likely that Mourinho will select a mixed XI to begin the game and then ring the changes both at half-time and at around the 60 minute mark.

GiveMeSport's predicted Chelsea XI:

Cech, Azpilicueta, Zouma, Cahill, Luis, Matic, Fabregas, Salah, Brown, Boga, Costa.

Chelsea desperate to sell Fernando Torres or Petr Cech

While the result in a fixture such as this is often secondary to the overall performance, Mourinho is a notoriously fiery and competitive character who is unlikely to tolerate any sort of dip in standards - even in a simple friendly match.

Diego Costa should certainly retain his place up front given Fernando Torres' recent horror miss, while Mourinho should also look to help foster further understanding between Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic in midfield.

Kurt Zouma is likely to continue to benefit from playing alongside both Gary Cahill and John Terry, while Mohamed Salah will be desperate to prove that he is worthy of a regular role for Chelsea this season.

Petr Cech can be forgiven for becoming distracted from the various transfer rumours that have continued to circulate following the return of Thibaut Courtois, although he should get at least 45 minutes of first-team action here.
