Edinson Cavani to begin Manchester United talks this weekend

Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani is set to begin talks over a move to Manchester United this weekend, according to The Express.

The report has suggested that the forward, who starred for Uruguay in this summer's World Cup, has grown frustrated at the Ligue 1 giants, and could now be on his way to Old Trafford in the near future.

It remains to be seen as to whether Cavani completes a move to The Theatre of Dreams, but he certainly seems intent on leaving France in this window. Having had to play out wide on a number of occasions for the European moneybags last term, it appears that the forward is desperate to play in his preferred striker role.

The same report from The Express has suggested that the Uruguayan's relationship with the club's manager Laurent Blanc has reached a new low, with his position at the club seemingly untenable.

The forward, without a doubt, is one of the leading stars in his position, and could prove a major hit in the Premier League next term. Manchester United, however, will have to agree a deal with the French giants, as the club look to improve ahead of the up coming season.

United options

And if United are able to land Cavani, who has also been linked to their Premier League rivals Chelsea in recent time, they will have an array of talent in their attacking line. The Red Devils already have the likes of Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Robin van Persie plying their trade at the Theatre of Dreams, while it remains to be seen as to whether Mexican ace Javier Hernandez stays at the club ahead of the new season.

United's pursuit of Cavani does appear to be a strange one, though, with the amount of star forwards already at the club. Manchester United fans will be hoping the club improve in other areas before the club play host to Swansea City on the opening day of the season.

Despite the arrivals of Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera, United are still in need of more recruits in the defensive and midfield areas. However, the possibility of United landing a marquee signing in the shape of Cavani may well prove too good to refuse for Van Gaal.
