Hi I’m Mick LeMare and this is GW News from the Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.
Behind me is the 16th green has been a challenge for many a major winner. Tiger is in town and with eight wins here he loves this place.
“YEAH I’M EXCITED TO BE BACK. I’VE HAD SOME PRETTY GOOD MEMORIES HERE I’VE HAD SOME PRETTY GOOD ROUNDS AND CERTAINLY SOME GREAT MOMENTS ON THIS PROPERTY SO ANYTIME I COME BACK HERE IT’S ALWAYS A GOOD SOLID FEELING AND I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS WEEK. I LIKE THIS PLACE. THE ONLY THING WE HAVEN’T HAD HERE, JACK [NICKLAUS] WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO PLAY A MAJOR HERE – IT WOULD BE NICE IF I COULD HAVE PLAYED A MAJOR HERE. I’VE HAD MY SHARE OF SUCCESS ON VENUES THAT WE’VE PLAYED TOUR EVENTS ON. WHETHER IT’S TORREY [PINES] OR PEBBLE [BEACH] – THIS WOULD BE NICE FOR ME”.
Rory McIlroy arrives here as Open champion and sees this as perfect preparation for next week at Valhalla.
“THIS COURSE IS GOING TO SET UP WELL FOR ME THIS WEEK. IT’S SOFT, IT’S A LONG GOLF COURSE ANYWAY AND IT’S PLAYING JUST THAT LITTLE BIT LONGER WITH ALL THE RAIN THAT THEY’VE HAD. IT’S A COURSE THAT I’VE DONE PRETTY WELL ON BEFORE AND I FEEL COMFORTABLE ON. THESE NEXT TWO WEEKS AT HERE AND AT VALHALLA AS WELL, THEY’RE TWO COURSES THAT SHOULD SET UP WELL ME SO WE’LL SEE HOW I GO BUT I FEEL LIKE MY GAME’S IN GOOD SHAPE THAT I CAN DEFINITELY HAVE A CHANCE.
After coming so close at Hoylake, Rickie Fowler will be hoping to get past the winning post here this week.
“IT’S A BIT SOFT RIGHT NOW BUT HOPEFULLY SOME OF THE RAIN CAN HOLD OFF AND WE’RE GET A GOOD GOLF COURSE THIS WEEKEND”.
That’s all from Firestone Country Club join us tomorrow when we’ll have a round up all of today’s action. In the meantime you can find us on Facebook and we’re on Twitter and Instagram @golfingworldtv.
