Uruguayan superstar Edinson Cavani wants Real Madrid winger Angel di Maria to join him at Paris Saint-Germain this summer, reports The Daily Star.

Following Real Madrid's signing of Colombian ace James Rodriguez, it appears that Di Maria could be on his way out of the Bernabeu in this window, with Premier League outfit Manchester United also interested in his services.

Di Maria

The Argentine ace, who has been rated at £40 million by the same report, played a key role for his national side's progress to the World Cup final this summer, and could now be set for a mega move to either PSG or United.

The forward starred for Madrid last season, as Carlo Ancelotti's side claimed Champions League silverware, and it remains to be seen as to whether the Spanish giants will accept a deal for his services.

At 26-years-old, Di Maria is entering the prime of his career, and could prove a major coup for any club ready to snap him up in this window. And Cavani, who has also been linked with a move to United, wants him to snub Old Trafford in favour of a move to France.

Speaking to reporters, the striker said: "We are always looking to add new elements to the team. Angel di Maria is quality.

"He would be welcomed in Paris. He would be welcomed to the team."

United options

It remains to be seen as to whether Manchester United will step up their interest in the gifted forward in the near future, but the club already posses an array of talent in their attacking line. United's wingers, however, have struggled to find form in recent time, as the likes of Ashley Young and Nani failed to make an impact at the Theatre of Dreams last term.

The potential signing of Di Maria, then, would certainly improve United in terms of quality, and could add another dimension to the side's attack. If he was signed, though, it's uncertain as to where Van Gaal would fit him in at Old Trafford, with the Dutch coach having implemented a 3-5-2 formation at the club.

Marquee

The signing of Di Maria would certainly prove a marquee signing for the club, with Spanish ace Ander Herrera and teenage full-back Luke Shaw having already arrive at the Theatre of Dreams.

United's busy summer certainly looks set to continue over the coming weeks, with the club still in need of improvement ahead of the new season. Manchester United fans will be hoping the club add to their defensive line after the departures of Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and Co. but it will be interesting to see if Van Gaal can land a top name before next month's big kick-off.
