Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Fernando Torres will remain at Chelsea for next season.
The £50 million striker has failed to find his best form in London since his arrival in 2011, and it has been suggested in recent weeks that he could be on his way back to Spain.
Atletico Madrid were reportedly leading the chase for his signature, while Monaco were showing an interest. Diego Costa has arrived from the Vicente Calderon while Didier Drogba is back at his former club - leaving Torres as Chelsea's third striker option following the departure of Romelu Lukaku, who was confirmed as an Everton player yesterday.
Demba Ba and Samuel Eto'o have also been let go and it was claimed that Torres could follow them out of the door, however Mourinho has moved to put an end to the speculation by confirming that the forward is in his plans for next season.
"Three strikers is fundamental in the squad and we have three - Nando, Didier and Diego," he said. "We have a good squad, the perfect squad would be with these 18 players, not 17."
Chelsea struggled for goals last season and it has been suggested they may look to bring in another striker before the close of the transfer window, although Mourinho's comments seem to put that particular rumour to bed.
