The tag team division has been a very competitive division over the past year or so, a number of new teams being formed has resulted in a lot more worthy contenders emerging who could carry the WWE Tag Team Championships.

We have seen the likes of Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns step up to be a massive tag team force over the last year, The Usos have proven themselves as worthy champions and Luke Harper and Erick Rowan are a team the majority of WWE fans are firmly behind; and just as entertaining.

Even though we have seen some entertaining teams disband, such as The Shield and The Prime Time Players; the WWE still has a good mix of tag teams whether it’s on the main roster or through the NXT division; they have a number of options.

But picking out the top five isn’t easy, considering all the factors such as chemistry, their work inside the ring, the way the fans react and how believable they are; it’s more difficult than expected.

Here are who I believe are the current top five tag teams in the WWE.

#5 – Stardust and Goldust

Where do we even start with these two, formerly competing as The Brotherhood it looks as if Cody Rhodes was set to turn heel and attack his brother, his gimmick change was definitely the last thing WWE fans expected. Undergoing a makeover to look more like Goldust and the two of them are continuing where they left off as Tag Team Champions.

As always, they work well in the ring. The chemistry has always been there, the fans seem to be into them with Cody’s new and interestingly strange persona, hopefully they can bring in even more gold.

#4 – Enzo Amore and Big Cass

If you’ve never been a fan of NXT then I recommend that you do and you watch Enzo and Big Cass in action. Perhaps the most charismatic team in all of the WWE today, they are almost guaranteed to be a success on the main roster once that does happen, it’s a good thing they’re still on NXT because right now NXT needs this tag team. They bounce off one another so well, witty one-liners which leave the fans in hysterics and simple catchphrases they never forget.

And of course, they are brilliant in-ring workers. Big Cass is fantastic for his size and Enzo Amore brings a whole new dimension to this tag team which you rarely see. The Usos are identical, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan are almost exactly the same as well; Enzo and Big Cass are at the opposite ends of the spectrum but there isn’t one without the other, I can bet that in a year or two; expect this name to be at the top of the list, the main roster fans will love them.

#3 – The Usos

The current WWE Tag Team Champions, I’ll be honest and say that I doubted The Usos ability to carry the gold rather than chasing it, to me I believed it just wouldn’t feel realistic enough that they’re defeating bigger threats especially if they were long term champions, usually I hate being wrong but not on this occasion. Giving the gold to the brothers has been a very good decision.

They’re on a different level to most teams, they’ve established themselves as legitimate champions and have put on some of the greatest tag team matches in recent years, their match against Harper and Rowan stole the show, hopefully they continue that pace.

#2 – Luke Harper and Erick Rowan

When Luke Harper and Erick Rowan were doing nothing but standing behind Bray Wyatt and listening to his instructions, it was difficult to see just how successful they could be if they moved to tag team competition. Fans believed Erick Rowan would drag the team down but if you’re an independent wrestling fan then you’d be aware just how talented Brodie Lee is, so there weren’t many worries for Luke Harper. But the impact they’ve made on the tag team division has been fantastic.

They don’t look weaker even though The Usos have defeated them multiple times, they’re still playing a pivotal role in every one of Bray Wyatt’s feuds and it’s only a matter of time before they capture the gold.

#1 – The Ascension

I think right now the greatest tag team in the WWE right now are the NXT Tag Team Champions; The Ascension. As a big NXT fan I know first-hand just how good Konnor and Viktor are, whether it is inside the ring or on the microphone. They play their dark gimmick really well and always stay in character, the chemistry is there in every single match because they revolve around dishing out beatings together with their impressive finishing manoeuvre ‘Fall of Man’ requiring both men.

There have been plenty of rumours for a number of months now, surrounding the imminent arrival of The Ascension on to the main roster, but it looks as if they’re holding out for a little while longer, perhaps until they drop the NXT Tag Team Championships. Keep an eye out for when they do make the main roster jump and become an immediate threat to the WWE Tag Team Championships, regardless of who the champions are.
