Manchester United are getting ready to hijack Paris Saint-Germain’s move for Angel di Maria and are readying a club-record £55million bid to match that of the French club.

According to Metro, reports in Spain have claimed that, despite PSG and Real Madrid coming to an agreement over the Argentina international, Old Trafford officials are not prepared to give to their pursuit.

Friendly discussions

Manchester United and Real Madrid meet in a friendly in Michigan on Saturday night and the report claims that Red Devils moneymen will use the match to try and make a breakthrough in negotiations to hijack the deal.

However, further reports earlier this week suggested that the Ligue 1 and La Liga giants were on the verge of announcing that an initial loan move for Di Maria would be agreed to get around Financial Fair Play sanctions that have put a net spend limit of €60million on them.

Perfect addition

Manchester United’s new manager, Louis van Gaal, is implementing a new formation and playing style to the Premier League giants and Di Maria would be an ideal addition to it.

Playing his preferred 4-3-3 system would require, Van Gaal himself admitted, more specialist wingers than he currently has at his disposal at Old Trafford and Di Maria would certainly be able to make an impact in that role.

Transfer mistake?

However, the 26-year-old has played his best football for some time at the end of this season when Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti gave him the chance to rotate from wide to central with Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Di Maria was man of the match in the Champions League final and was probably los Blancos’ standout player at the end of the season so it is baffling as to why they would sell him, but club president Florentino Perez must have his Galactico signings and World Cup star James Rodriguez’s arrival needs to be paid for.
