Tottenham have started talks with Villarreal over the proposed signing of defender Mateo Musacchio, with Mauricio Pochettino keen to reinforce his ranks in time for the new season.

The Argentine defender has a value of around £21 million, but Spurs are reported to have made an opening offer of £16 million.

Manchester City are confident that they will be able to register Frank Lampard in time for the start of the new Premier League season.

Lampard will play for New York City FC when the 2015 MLS season begins, but will join Manchester City - their sister club - on loan until then in order to maintain his fitness.
