Arsene Wenger has opted to slot his £16m new signing from Southampton, young defender Calum Chambers, straight into his team at centre-back.
The 19-year-old starts in a makeshift back-line alongside Nacho Monreal, with Hector Bellerin and Kieran Gibbs on either side. Chambers, who played at right-back for the Saints in each and every one of his Premier League appearances last season, has clearly been viewed by Wenger as a long-term project in the centre of defence.
Joel Campbell starts
Further forward, the Arsenal boss has handed a start to Costa Rica international Joel Campbell. The young forward is effectively on trial. Should he impress he'll earn a spot in the first-team squad. If not, there's no shortage of suitors in the Premier League and abroad ready to take him - either permanently or on loan.
Alexis Sanchez on bench
Arsenal fans face a wait for their first chance to see £32m man Alexis Sanchez. The former-Barcelona forward is on the bench today but may feature in the second half.
Yaya Sanogo gets an opportunity to stake his claim for a spot as Olivier Giroud's like-for-like replacement. The gifted, but raw, Frenchman did not show too much development last season so the pressure will be on to step up a gear this term.
