Manchester United have the chance to get a deal for Arturo Vidal over the line after it was revealed that Juventus want both Javier Hernandez and Nani.
Corriere dello Sport claims that Vidal is set to leave Turin after Louis van Gaal offered a huge €50 million transfer fee. The Dutchman has also promised Vidal an €8 million-a-year deal, leaving a transfer close to completion.
What's the hold up?
However, despite the widespread reporting over Vidal's prospective move to Old Trafford, no deal has been completed yet. Why not? It could all be because of Juventus's claimed interest in the Manchester United outcasts.
With Juventus keen to reinforce their squad following the departure of Antonio Conte, they will know fans will not accept a key figure like Vidal leaving without some impressive players coming in.
If the Serie A champions can seal the Manchester United duo before allowing Vidal to leave, then the Juventus faithful will be more willing to accept the departure of their midfield enforcer.
The simplest way to do business will be for Van Gaal to offer both players in exchange for Vidal. Not only will he be shifting two unwanted squad players, but he will also be able to negotiate a much lower fee.
Both Nani and Hernandez are clearly unhappy with their bit-part roles at Old Trafford and should jump at the chance to join a club like Juventus, who, unlike Manchester United, will be competing in the Champions League next season.
As Van Gaal has already stated, he is taking his time to evaluate exactly who is deserving of a place in his Manchester United squad next season. He has already shown a willingness to give formerly exiled players a chance - Ashley Young the prime example - and he may be taking further time to decide whether Nani or Hernandez should be sold.
Any delay in the decision would be enough to hold up a deal for Vidal, as Juventus wait to see if they will get what they want in exchange. What the Italian newspaper does state is that regardless of the future of Nani and Hernandez, Vidal is likely to depart Juventus this summer. When it will happen is a whole other question.
