Inter Milan winger Ezequiel Schelotto is set to join teammate Saphir Taider in a move to Southampton.
According to the Daily Echo, the Italian, who was sent on-loan to Parma in Serie A last season, could also be part of a swap deal that takes Dani Osvaldo to Inter Milan.
The signing of Scheletto would be a good deal for the South coast club, who are looking to strengthen their squad this summer following a string of outgoings.
If Southampton do manage the signing of Schelotto, he will almost certainly be accompanied by his Inter Milan teammate Saphir Taider.
Southampton manager Ronald Koeman confirmed on Friday that he was pleased to secure the Taider deal and he would prove an excellent midfield option for the Saints.
"Taider brings quality and we need that. We need competition in the squad as well and that will be good." he told Sky Sports.
Quality in depth
The double signing would also add some depth to the Southampton squad, with Taider able to play in the attacking third as well as a central midfielder, whilst Schelotto will add pace and power to the wide areas which is much needed in the absence of the injured Jay Rodriguez.
Southampton's midfield would most certainly be their strongest area with the signing of Taider and Schelotto, and with Morgan Schneiderlin, Victor Wanyama, Jack Cork, Steven Davis and James Ward-Prowse all vying for a role, Koeman might even struggle to keep everyone happy next season.
With Gaston Ramirez and Dusan Tadic also in the mix for the more advanced positions, Koeman will have plenty of options to choose from, and he will hope that the competition spurs his player's to an even higher level than last season.
