Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is preparing a player-plus-cash offer for Atletico Madrid star Arda Turan, according to reports.
Turkish newspaper AMK claims the Dutchman is ready to make an enticing offer for the player, with Shinji Kagawa and €20million set to be placed on the table for the attacking midfielder.
Big release clause
Turan, who has a €40million minimum fee release clause in his contract at the Vicente Calderon stadium, was impressive last season for the La Liga champions as they secured domestic success and reached the final of the Champions League.
But, manager Diego Simeone has already lost a number of his star players, and it appears Turan could be next out of the door if the new Manchester United manager gets his way in the transfer window.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for Arturo Vidal this summer, but a move for the Chilean is yet to go through and Van Gaal appears to be considering other options in the midfield position.
Another La Liga midfielder
Turan would certainly fit the bill, and his arrival at Old Trafford would follow that of Ander Herrera this summer after he left Athletic Bilbao for the former Premier League champions. Luke Shaw is the other significant Manchester United signing this summer.
Rather than pay the full asking price, the report claims Van Gaal is willing to sacrifice Kagawa, with the Japanese international yet to show his full ability for the Red Devils since his move from Borussia Dortmund.
He arrived back in 2012, but has never really made a lasting impression on the first-team despite being something of a favourite with the Manchester United faithful.
Signing Turan would give Van Gaal another option in a side that appears to be taking shape ahead of the new season on their tour of America. Four games and four wins is clear evidence of that.
But, with midfield such an issue for David Moyes last season before his sack, it's no surprise to see the new Manchester United boss targeting that area as a position he needs to improve.
If Turan did join the Red Devils, he'd be vying for a place alongside the likes of Herrera and Juan Mata, whilst his ability to play on the left wing also offers versatility to a club looking to return to Europe.
