Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has pledged to tell his players whether or not they have a future at Old Trafford as soon as the squad returns from their pre-season tour of the US.
The veteran Dutch coach, whose side will compete in this evening's International Champions Cup final against fierce rivals Liverpool in Miami, will inform his players early to allow them to secure moves elsewhere before the summer transfer window closes on September 2.
Van Gaal: The quotes
"I shall make judgements after this tour," he told reporters on Sunday. "I have let all the players play and I know now more than before the tour.
"Now also it is a little bit soon to judge but in football you have to judge. You have to give the player a chance to make a transfer when I see that his prospects to play are not so high.
"You have to say it in advance because it’s too late after August 31. I will tell payers after the tour but to them not to you."
Players at risk of the axe
The Daily Mail speculate that a number of high-profile players are at risk of being told to leave Manchester United later this month.
Anderson is the most likely player to be axed after failing to secure a permanent move to Fiorentina at the end last season. The Brazilian midfielder lost his squad number to Juan Mata in January and was left out of United's US tour.
Other players reportedly at risk of the axe include Nani, Javier Hernandez, Shinji Kagawa and Marouane Fellaini.
However, both Hernandez and Kagawa may have planted a seed of doubt into Van Gaal's mind after producing some eye-catching cameo performances on the club's tour.

Van Gaal rebuilding
Despite spending close to £60 million on the signings of Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw this summer, Van Gaal is expected to continue splashing the cash up until transfer deadline day in order to secure a top-four finish this season.
Missing out on a place in Europe's elite club competition could prove potentially catastrophic for the Red Devils, with the club's owners recently warning investors that another Champions League-less campaign could result in top players and influential coaching staff leaving Old Trafford.
Van Gaal is believed to be keen to sign at least one more centre-back - Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels and Arsenal's Thomas Vermaelen are high on the Dutchman's radar - plus another world-class central midfielder.
However, United's impressive pre-season performances led Van Gaal to recently tell reporters - perhaps somewhat mischievously - that he might not sign any more players at all.
Van Gaal's side kick off their Premier League campaign against Swansea City at Old Trafford on August 16.
