Angel di Maria set for £59.9m move to PSG

According to El Confidencial, Angel di María is set for a move to Paris St Germain in a mouthwatering £59.9million deal.

The Argentine winger, thought to be dismayed by his treatment at Madrid, is set to sign a bumper four-year contract with the French champions in the next few days.

Van Gaal vs PSG?

Such news has dashed any hopes that Di María might be part of Van Gaal's plans for the coming season. Both he and Bayern Munich's Pep Guardiola were touted as possible pursuers of the tricky World Cup star this summer. It is thought they may have been put off by the hefty price tag among other factors.

El Confidencial reports that a move away from the Madrid side has been a long time in the making. Di María has been angling for a new contract for many months and feels he has been under appreciated. The signing of Colombian star, James Rodriguez, has only furthered these beliefs.

PSG's interest

What's more, PSG have presented their impressive blueprint for the future to the star. With the signing of David Luiz for £50million and the proposed deal for Di María in place, PSG believe they can finally launch an assault on Europe in the coming season. Di María, who managed an impressive 26 assists for Madrid last season, is said to be fully on board with these plans.

With the Financial Fair Play regulations in place, Madrid are keen to recoup as much money as they can from the hefty Rodriguez transfer. Thus, the transfer of Di María sits well for both clubs.

Whether the transfer would trigger moves away from PSG remains a talking point. Edinson Cavani has been linked with the likes of United and Manchester City since the transfer window opened. A £55million move to the Premier League remains a possibility in the coming weeks.
