Arsenal’s marquee summer signing Alexis Sanchez will have been feeling the love at his new club after being handed an incredible reception as he came on for his Gunners debut.
Arsenal won their first Emirates Cup tie this afternoon against Benfica in a very comfortable 5-1 victory in a game which saw Yaya Sanogo incredibly score four and Joel Campbell the other scorer. But besides the North London giants' heroic performance, this game will also be remember as the first appearance by a Chilean in an Arsenal jersey as Alexis Sánchez was introduced for 16 minutes from the end.
Alexis joined from Barcelona after an impressive World Cup for a fee of £35 million and some of the football he played today showed good signs for things to come for the gunners this season.
The welcome he was given couldn't have been any better and when he came on he showed signs of pace, expert dribbling ability and a drive to get on the ball whenever he can.
This was certainly however a day to remember though for Yaya Sanogo scoring four goals and getting a hat-trick in just 45 minutes! It was also a day to remember for Joel Campbell who had a superb debut. He sent shock-waves into the Benfica defence every time he had the ball showing great ball control and brilliant want to surge forward with the ball at his feet. Campbell could have also had a hat-trick if he took more care at times with his opportunities and Sanogo could have had about 5 or 6 too!
Aaron Ramsey continued to shine in an Arsenal strip giving another outstanding performance but this he didn't score any goals but he can reflect well on a very good outing.
There was no Özil nor Giroud today but they were not missed today.
Arsenal lost to AS Monaco yesterday and they will now focus on their big Community Shield clash next weekend against Man City which could see them win two pieces of silverware since their nine year drought dragging back to 2005.
