Kobe Bryant is one of the greatest players to have ever played for the Los Angeles Lakers. The 35-year-old has won five NBA championships with the most famous team in basketball, and as a result, Kobe has become a hero to Lakers fans across the globe.
Present at the Lakers since 1996 after getting drafted by Charlotte Hornets before immediately being traded to LA, Kobe Bryant has subsequently become the best shooting guard in the NBA.
The key to greatness
Now injuries and age mean that his mantle has probably been taken by James Harden now, but how did Kobe Bryant become the superstar that he is? What abilities do you need to become a top shooting guard?
Kobe Bryant has been in China for the past week or so, and whilst he was talking to some Chinese reporters, he revealed what skills youngsters need to become top shooting guards.
"Defense. Defense. Defense. You've got to play defense, especially as a shooting guard. There are so many other great shooting guards in the league," Kobe told reporters this week.
"It takes a lot of effort to play the shooting guard position. We have to be the best conditioned players on the floor because we are asked to score and then defend against enviably the best scorers on the other team. It takes a lot of running."

Over the course of his career, Kobe Bryant has had rivalries with players across the NBA. One of his most prominent duels has been his rivalry with Tim Duncan.
The San Antonio Spurs' center finally won his fifth NBA title with the Western Conference team breezing past the Miami Heat.
This finally tied Duncan with Kobe in terms of championships, and now that he's back injury and raring to go with the Lakers, Bryant says he can't wait to continue their "great rivalry" on the court during the 2014/15 NBA season.
"It’s been a great rivalry between myself and Tim. He’s a great guy and an incredible basketball player. I’m very honored that we kind of grew up together competing for championships, and I can't wait to go again next year."
Kobe has been busy during his tour in China on the behalf of Nike. Never one to miss an opportunity to meet and greet with fans, this tour for Kobe has been no different.
The most memorable moment of the tour so far for Kobe and his fans in Asia was his one-on-one performance against a fan last week. Check out the video on one of the related article links above. Kobe, as usual, dominates the fan and takes the spoils.
