Johnny Manziel makes first team debut with Cleveland Browns

Johnny Manziel got his first run out with the Cleveland Browns first string offense today in an 11 on 11 match up with the Browns starters on the opposite side of the ball.

1st Team Reps

Johnny Football it seemed to all had replaced Brian Hoyer as the starting as the former Texas A&M Aggie was with the firsts for the whole practice while the consensus starting QB Hoyer spent the session with the second string offense, who went up against the Browns second line of defense.

Not the Starter Yet

But Manziel hasn't taken the reigns of the offense just yet. According to head coach Mike Pettine, this is all just part of the plan for Manziel and Hoyer, neither of whom have been a proper starter in the NFL yet.

Apparently, the plan with the Browns quarterbacks is that they will both be sharing the reps for the rest of the pre-season with the two swapping first and second team duties from now till the season start.

Hit and Miss

Manziel had an inconsistent time out with the first team receivers and offensive line.

In the opening team period, JFF stepped in and launched a 40-yard pass to Travis Benjamin. In his next drive, Manziel was picked off by Donte Whitner after a tip by Jim Leonard.

Manziel had two of his passes dropped, one batted down at the line of scrimmage by Paul Kruger, and one broken up by cornerback Joe Haden at the goal line. He also completed a deep ball down the right sideline to Andrew Hawkins.

No-one really knows who will start for the Browns against the Steelers in week one. The favourite has to remain Brian Hoyer, but the former Patriots and Cardinals backup has a grand total of 4 starts in his whole career so it will be a tight race to that starting spot.
