Manchester United have clinched their first trophy of the Louis van Gaal era after beating Liverpool to become winners of the International Champions Cup.

It is, of course, only a pre-season trophy, but it represents a fine start for the former Netherlands coach.

Manchester United remained unbeaten during this tournament; recording outright victories over Roma and Real Madrid during the group phase, and also triumphing over Inter Milan via a penalty shootout after a goalless draw.

This set up a final clash with Liverpool and Van Gaal’s side were able to recover from falling behind to a Steven Gerrard goal to record a 3-1 triumph over their greatest of rivals.
