Former European Champion and current pundit Jamie Moore is recovering in hospital after being shot, BBC News reports.
Moore, aged 35, is a trainer to former world title challenger Mathew Macklin and promising lightweight Tommy Coyle and he had been training Macklin at the MGM Gym in Marbella.
Macklin is supposed to be fighting in Dublin on August 30 in a Matchroom bill labelled as 'Return Of The Mack'. Macklin is to face Jorge Sebastian Helland for the WBC international title.
No permanent damage
Moore has undergone surgery which has reportedly been a success with Macklin taking to Twitter to state: "Just to let everyone know Jamie Moore is still in hospital but he's OK."
"He was shot in his legs but the doctors have said there shouldn't be any serious or permanent damage done."
Moore remains in hospital under armed guard and will hopefully have as quick a recovery as possible.
As expected, the boxing community has come out in strong support of Moore, with many taking to social media to wish him all the best.
This not only shows the popularity of a hugely likeable individual but also the unity of the boxing community in this country.
Moore himself has taken to Twitter saying: "Thanks for all the well wishes. Overwhelmed. Gutted and confused about what had happened, but thank God I'm OK."
The MGM Gym in Marbella - which is owned by Macklin - has become a very popular place for boxers to go and train recently with a vast amount of British talent working there.
As of yet there have been no arrests and there is little publicly known of why this incident took place and who was involved. Hopefully those responsible will be caught quickly and brought to justice for their activities.
Moore is lucky to be alive and there is an overall sense of relief in the boxing family.
