New Arsenal signing Alexis Sánchez felt it was necessary this week to give many thanks to the Arsenal faithful for all the support they gave him when he came on in the 74th minute in the Gunners' 5-1 victory over Benfica last Saturday.
Sánchez arrived from Catalan giants Barcelona in July for a fee worth £35 million making him Arsenal's second most expensive ever signing behind Mesut Özil.
Arsenal's first ever Chilean player talked about how he will need time to adapt but is glad that he got to play some football last weekend.
He said: "I have to go step by step, I have only trained twice with the team. Today I played 70 minutes, I believe I needed it, and I just have to keep on working hard and training."
When he was asked about manager, Arsene Wenger; "I like this style of football. What it is important for me now is to try to play games, to score as many goals and possible and to win titles. What it is important now is to play and get fit. I need to get 100 per cent."
Finally he was asked about what he made of the reception he got when he came on against Benfica; "Of course I loved it [the reception from the fans], I am extremely thankful to all of them. I am extremely happy and I hope I can make them very happy as well."
Wenger said this week that Sánchez is not even close to full fitness so now even bigger things will be expected of Alexis not just because of his price tag, but also because of the ability and quality he has already shown in the Emirates Cup, and this was when he wasn't even at full fitness!
According to Sky Sports, Sánchez already feels at home in the Arsenal training camp which will make Gooner fans much, much happier.
