Manchester United are still in with a chance of signing Angel di Maria this summer, despite the fact that Paris Saint-Germain already have an agreement in place with the Real Madrid winger according to reports in Spain.
Di Maria looks set to leave the Bernabeu this summer following the arrival of World Cup stars James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos. His first action was restricted last season and he had the chance to leave but opted to stay and fight for his place.
Out of favour?
He did manage to win back the favour of Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti and put in a storming performance in his side's Champions League final victory over Atletico Madrid, but it now looks as though he is back to square one and will be shipped out.
Earlier on in the summer it had been suggested that Manchester United were in the race for his signature but Paris Saint-Germain quickly emerged as favourites to land him. The saga appeared to be over, however UEFA's transfer restrictions on PSG mean that as it stands they are unable to complete the €60 million deal.
According to Spanish source ABC, both Manchester United and Monaco have taken the chance to seize upon the delay, and are back in the race for Di Maria's signature. ABC say that as thing stands, the deal is stuck and shows no sign of moving any time soon, which would grant Manchester United the perfect opportunity to pounce and provide the 26-year-old with an alternative destination.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez met with the player's agent, Jorge Mendes to try and find a solution to the problem, and with three clubs all interested his destination remains unclear.
So far this summer the Red Devils have completed deals for Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera for a combined fee of around £60 million. However both those deals were wrapped up one after the other last month, and since then there have been no new arrivals at Old Trafford.
New Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has previously admitted that he needs to sign some more defenders, while it is also understood that he'd like a new midfielder too. However, his swoop for Arturo Vidal seems doomed while defender target Mats Hummels won't be on his way to Old Trafford according to his boss Jurgen Klopp.
That rules out two of the new former Bayern Munich manager's main targets, which may then prompt the Dutchman to reconsider a swoop for Di Maria.
At the back it looks as though Thomas Vermaelen may be the man for the job, although Arsenal are demanding £10 million for the 28-year-old and so far Manchester United are yet to come up with an acceptable offer.
