Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal looks set to make changes to his squad before next weekend's big Premier League kick-off.
The new Red Devils boss has has already purchased talented duo Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera in this transfer window, but will surely splash the cash once again in the coming weeks.
One man that has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent time is Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani. And, with the French moneybags on the verge of completing a £60 million deal for Angel Di Maria, reports have suggested that the club will now look to offload the Uruguayan striker because of FFP.
But, Van Gaal would be foolish to bring Cavani to Old Trafford in this window. And, it's pretty obvious as to why he doesn't need him.
Along with Manchester City, United have arguably the best attack in the division. With Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez battling it out for places at the club, United aren't in need of improving.
Where would Cavani fit? He certainly wouldn't be happy with a place on the bench, behind Van Persie and Rooney. And the likes of Welbeck and Hernandez certainly wouldn't be happy with his arrival.
Van Gaal would have to get rid of one of them, or even two. And where would Cavani's potential arrival leave youngsters like Jesse Lingard and James Wilson, who will be desperate to make an impression at the club in the coming years?
Of course, Cavani's a superstar, but he's a superstar that Van Gaal doesn't need: it would only disrupt his squad.
The new United boss must, however, improve in other areas ahead of the new season. There's no doubt about it, Van Gaal will be over the moon with United's form in pre-season, but the club are still in need of improvement.
Defensively, United are short on numbers after the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic left the club behind. And, while Van Gaal has added Herrera to his midfield, he must secure another midfield star in this window.
It would certainly prove a waste of time pursuing other areas of his squad, when United's problems are there for all to see. If the Dutch boss can add a world class defender and midfielder to his current squad, then he certainly has a team capable of challenging for silverware once again next term.
Wit Rooney, Mata, Van Persie and Co. all ready to shine under the new regime, United could fire themselves back into contention - they just need some help from their midfield and defence...
