Chile international Arturo Vidal has reportedly told friends that he wants to quit Juventus in order to join Manchester United this summer.
This latest information on the long-running transfer saga was revealed live on Italian TV - and brought to our attention by the Metro - by Sky Italia journalist Mario Giunta on Tuesday evening.
Vidal to United: The story so far
Speculation over Vidal’s future has been intense all summer, with countless reports claiming that Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal had identified the 27-year-old as his top summer transfer target.
Indeed, last week it was even reported that Vidal had completed preliminary medical checks with the Red Devils ahead of a club-record €50 million transfer.
But Vidal appeared to indicate that he was content to stay with the Turin-based club after posting a photo to Instagram expressing his happiness at Juventus on Tuesday - although reports in Italy have since stated that the account is fake.
This was subsequently followed up by Chile head coach Jorge Sampaoli revealing that Vidal’s transfer to Manchester United was being held up due to doubts held by Van Gaal over the world-class midfielder’s knee, following an injury the player sustained last season.
United yet to make official offer
The Metro go on to report that Manchester United have yet to make an official offer for Vidal, but have tempted the player and his agent with a lucrative five-year deal worth a staggering £200,000-a-week.
Not only would this mean a significant pay increase for Vidal, but it would also make him one of the highest earners at Old Trafford.
However, Van Gaal must decide whether or not to take an expensive gamble on a player who could suffer from a recurrence of that knee injury in the future.

United fans want Vidal
Manchester United supporters are desperately hoping that Van Gaal gives the green light for the club to press on with plans to sign Vidal.
Many, particularly those who regularly use social media, appear convinced that Vidal is the man to help United climb back into the top four this season.
The Red Devils, though, have already splashed out £29 million on Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera this summer - and Van Gaal recently suggested that he might be content with his squad as it is.
Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri is determined to keep Vidal at the club and won’t make it easy for United to sign Vidal.
And with less than four weeks to go before the summer transfer window closes, time is running out for United to get this deal over the line. But it all appears to depend on Van Gaal.
