Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has barely spent three weeks with the Red Devils squad and already had a major impact on a squad which has looked rejuvenated in pre-season, returning from a tour of the United States unbeaten in give matches and with eye-catching victories over the likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool.
Pre-season results must of course be viewed with scrutiny and will soon be forgotten if United fail to fire when the new Premier League campaign gets underway next week, but valuable time across the pond has surely solidified Van Gaal's vision for the way he can deliver success quickly over the next ten months.
Van Gaal is on record as stating that he wouldn't sign any new players during his first few weeks in charge.
That time has now passed though and the Daily Mail view this week as crucial to his transfer plans, with a recruitment meeting booked with United chiefs to finalise plans for one more push aimed at bringing fresh faces to the Theatre of Dreams.
Van Gaal agreed with United chiefs that Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera were worth targets and sanctioned those deals before officially taking on his new position, but there is under a month left for the vastly experienced Dutch tactician to bring in his own players.
United are certainly not short of cash and have been consistently linked with a £100m spending spree before the window slams shut, but Van Gaal also has to pick stars that have no part in his plans before getting the green light to sign replacements.
With that in mind GMS has decided to look at five points which must be on the agenda of this week's showdown talks over transfer business, one that has to go well if United are to banish memories of a horror show last season and ensure a return to the Champions League at the first possible opportunity.
