Borussia Dortmund furious after Marco Reus clause revealed

Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has hit back at his Bayern Munich opposite number, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, after the Bayern chief revealed the details regarding Marco Reus's release clause. The Germany international has been linked with Liverpool and Manchester United.

In an interview with German publication Bild, Rummenigge said Reus has a 'dangerous' release clause and is 'a very interesting player'.

He went on to say: "It is known that the player with Borussia Dortmund has a get-out clause that, as rumours, at €25m to be located."

In previous weeks Rummenigge has claimed Reus is wanted by 'a number' of European clubs, and Dortmund - who have watched as star players like Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski have left them for the Allianz Arena - have now bitten back.

Dortmund furious

Watzke responded with a statement on Dortmund's official website. It read: "Borussia Dortmund has noted with some irritation that Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is currently discussing internal BVB matters in a three-day rhythm in the media.

“We are sure that it is quite clear to anybody interested in football what intentions lie behind such remarks. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is also fully aware that his behaviour is only going to further damage an already tense relationship between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

“Naturally as employers, we are going to continue to follow our principles in future and not discuss any details of our employees’ contracts in public.”

Missed World Cup

The Germany international missed the World Cup with torn ankle ligaments, and watched on as his teammates lifted the trophy for the fourth time in their country's history.

He is close to making his comeback as the new season nears, although he is facing a losing battle in his race to be fit for next week's match against Bayern Munich in the Super Cup.

Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with the attacker in recent weeks, with United thought to be exploring alternative targets as Angel Di Maria is close to sealing a move to Paris Saint Germain.

Liverpool today completed the loan signing of Javier Manquillo from Atletico Madrid. Brendan Rodgers has an option to buy the defender permanently.
