Manchester United target Jordy Clasie will sign for Porto if Feyenoord crash out of the Champions League early.
According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Clasie is ready to move to Porto if Feyenoord fail to overcome opponents Besiktas in the Champions League third qualifying round this evening.
Champions League problems
The Eredivisie side lost 2-1 at home to their Turkish opposition, and travel to the Ataturk Olympic Stadium tonight for their second leg.
If Feyenoord fail to reach the Champions League playoff round, Clasie will look to move on with Portugal his preferred destination. He had been mentioned as a possible target for Louis Van Gaal, who managed Clasie with the Netherlands at the World Cup.
The 23-year-old midfielder has made just under 100 league appearances for Feyenoord since breaking into the team in 2010. He's been dubbed the 'Dutch Xavi' for his technical, economical style of play.
United strengthened their midfield with the addition of Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao earlier this summer, but Van Gaal is still on the lookout for reinforcements - especially at centre-back and in central midfield.
Clasie is not a goalscorer, he's never managed more than three in a league campaign, but he could have been the perfect foil for Herrera in a midfield three.
Because it looks like, at least initially, Van Gaal will implement a 3-5-2 wing-back formation at United. One of the three will be Juan Mata tucked in behind the two strikers, which leaves two more orthodox central midfielders behind.
Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher, Tom Cleverley and Herrera are battling for the two spots but Van Gaal is believed to want greater strength in depth at the position - especially as doubts remain regarding Cleverley's form and Fletcher's fitness.
However, rather than Clasie, the Dutch boss may go for another international midfield teammate, Roma's Kevin Strootman.
