We start with Tiger Woods, who has been granted an extension to the deadline to register for this week’s PGA Championship.
Ordinarily players have to confirm their involvement by 5pm on Wednesday but the 14-time major winner now has until 10 minutes before his 8:35 tee off time on Thursday to register.
If Tiger does play he’ll spend the first two rounds with Padraig Harrington and Phil Mickelson.
Mickelson is winless this year and struggled over the opening two rounds of The Open but closed on Sunday with a 68:
"Well, I've been waiting for it to just click and just all come together in a round, and I felt like once that happened there would be some momentum and things would fall into place a lot easier. I had expected it to happen Thursday and Friday, so I was extremely disappointed with the first two rounds. The weekend came and I played a good solid round on Saturday, but Sunday was a big day for me because it just kind of fell together. I felt like the pieces were close and Thursday-Friday hit and I didn't know what to think. But the weekend came and I played some good golf, and it felt like it started to fall together."
Rory McIlroy comes into Thursday’s opening round after back-to-back wins at The Open and the WGC Bridgestone Invitational. He tees off with 2014’s other major champions Martin Kaymer and Bubba Watson.
"Look, I said at the start of the year that golf was looking for someone to put their hand up and sort of become one of the dominant players in the game. I felt like I had the ability to do that, and it's just nice to be able to win a few tournaments and get back to where I feel like I should be, which is near the top of the world rankings and competing in majors and winning golf tournaments. So I'm not necessarily sure you can call that an era or the start of an era, but I'm just really happy with where my golf game is at the minute and I just want to try and continue that for as long as possible."
That’s all for today, join us tomorrow as round one of the final major of 2014 gets underway. In the meantime follow us on Twitter @golfingworldtv and we’re on Facebook and Instagram too. Thanks for watching.
