The Daily Mirror are reporting that Catalan club Barcelona had approached former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez over a transfer before the World Cup finals in Brazil.
This is despite Suarez saying before going to the finals in Brazil: “Don’t worry, nothing is going to happen to me. I’m very happy here and my family is happy here."
Suarez was the top scorer in the Barclays Premier League with 31 goals last season, despite being banned for the first five games of Liverpool's campaign.
Suarez played in every Premier League game after his ban was over, getting his 31 goals durng his 33 Premier League appearances.
Suarez does leave Merseyside
Despite Suarez saying he wasn't leaving Merseyside he did eventually leave after the World Cup was over. Suarez moved to Catalan giants Barcelona for £75 million.
However, the president of Barcelona has come out to confirm that the Catalan club approached Suarez before the World Cup, reportedly telling CNN: “We knew from of lot of years ago that Luis Suarez likes our club, likes our city [his in-laws already live in Catalonia]."
The president has also revealed that the Spanish club did not consider dropping their pursuit of the Uruguayan striker. This was even after Suarez bit Giorgio Chiellini in Uruguay's game against Italy in the World Cup group stages.
As a result of the bite Suarez has been banned from all football related activities until October. The ban means the South American star will be able to make his debut for his new Catalan club in the most hotly anticipated El Clasico match of the year against Real Madrid.
