Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is fearful that the Red Devils could be pulled into a bidding war for Colombian winger Juan Cuadrado.
As reported by the Independent, it appears that the Red Devils have already tabled a bid in the region of £29 million for the player's services, as Van Gaal looks to improve his squad before the start of the new season.
However, it appears that, despite Italian outfit Fiorentina expecting to lose their prize asset, United may yet be pulled into a price war for the player's services. It appears that La Liga giants Barcelona are also interested in securing the services of the 26-year-old in this transfer window, meaning the two clubs could go head-to-head for the player in the near future.
The same report has indicated that both United and Barcelona would offer the winger a better deal than the one he's currently on at Fiorentina, with the player looking to push through a move in this window.
Perfect United signing?
Manchester United fans will certainly be excited by the prospect of Cuadrado joining their club after he proved his credentials at this summer's World Cup. Strong on the ball, quick and versatile, Cuadrado certainly has the ability to make a major impression at the Theatre of Dreams, but it remains to be seen as to whether Van Gaal can persuade him to join the club.
If the Red Devils land the player, then he may well have to play in the wing-back position at the club. Dutch boss Van Gaal has implemented a 3-5-2 formation at United following his success in using the system with the Netherlands at this summer's World Cup.
Cuadrado, then, could play down the right-hand side at Old Trafford for the up-coming season. However, throughout pre-season, a number of players have taken up the wing-back positions.
Ashley Young - who has played on both the right and left hand-side - has impressed throughout United's tour of the US, whilst Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw have also featured.
Rafael da Silva will also be desperate for a first-team spot, despite suffering an injury setback on the tour. Highly rated youngster Reece James has also starred in pre-season, but it's uncertain as to whether he will be part of Van Gaal's plans for the new campaign.
