Manchester United and Newcastle target Andre Ayew is poised to reject Louis van Gaal and Alan Pardew this summer, as he prefers a move to Liverpool.
According to information in the Daily Star the Ghanaian winger, who has been targeted by a number of Premier League sides, is desperate to make a switch from Marseille to Anfield in the coming weeks, and wants to play under Brendan Rodgers. Despite the fact that the Northern Irishman has to date shown no real interest in Ayew, the 24-year-old is said to want a move to Merseyside, and will push for an exit as he isn’t convinced over his current club's ambitions.
The same report states that Ayew, who currently earns £60,000-a-week at Marseille, wants to leave because of the poor finish his side managed last term. The French outfit placed sixth in Ligue 1, someway off the likes of Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain, meaning that they will miss out on European football next term.
For the player in question that’s simply not good enough, and he harbours lofty ambitions of becoming one of the continent’s brightest talents. With both Monaco and PSG already full to the brim with attacking talents this means that a move abroad is essentially the only option, and a number of top sides are considering bids.
However regardless of the interest from Italy , courtesy of the likes of AC Milan and Napoli, Ayew’s intentions are reportedly there for all to see. Liverpool is where he wants to be playing his football, and the World Cup ace isn’t likely to settle for United - who are coincidentally also missing out on European football this term - as a result.
Of course the scenario is very different from Rodgers’ perspective, as the Reds have already signed a number of players who occupy similar positions. Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic both operate in areas just behind the strikers, whilst Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho are already jostling for starting roles.
With all things considered it’s surely Newcastle fans who can expect to be seeing Ayew wearing their strip next term. United may be second in the running behind Liverpool but Van Gaal is targeting more illustrious names such as Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba, and isn’t likely to be concerned by apparent snub from the Marseille star.
As for his hopes of joining Liverpool they look somewhat dim given the circumstances. Of course Rodgers may continue to add squad depth in preparation for the Champions League campaign ahead, but it looks as though Pardew is the manager who has the room in his squad to accommodate.
