Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is closing in on a deal to bring Paris Saint-Germain youngster Adrien Rabiot to Stamford Bridge, according to the Surrey Mirror.
The same report, however, has suggested that Chelsea's Premier League rivals Manchester City are also interested in the player's signature, and could yet start a bidding war with the Blues.
The highly rated 19-year-old, who struggled for first-team opportunities at the French champions last term, could could now be on his way to the Premier League in this transfer window.
Chelsea certainly look in the driving seat for the Frenchman, but it appears that Manuel Pellegrini is keen to bring him to the Etihad. As well as City, the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United have been credited with interest in the youngster, but it remains to be seen as to whether they make a move for him in the near future.
It appears, though, that PSG are determined to keep Rabiot, but they may not be able to refuse Chelsea or City's offer in this current market.
If Chelsea can secure the signature of Rabiot, then it's uncertain as to whether he would compete for places in the Blues' midfield for the up coming season. Mourinho already has an array of talent in the middle of the park, with the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Nemanja Matic, Ramires and Co. at the club.
However, after the departures of the likes of Frank Lampard and David Luiz - who played in the middle of the park a number of times in the 2013/14 season - Mourinho may want to add further to his options before the start of the new campaign.
The Chelsea boss will certainly be hoping his team push on next season after only managing a third placed Premier League finish last time out. The Blues also fell short in Europe after suffering defeat at the hands of La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid.
Mourinho has certainly made a number of changes this summer, so won't have any excuses if his team fail in their pursuit of silverware next season. It remains to be seen, however, as to whether one of the France's finest young talents stars at the Bridge next term.
