Manchester United are ready to meet Juan Cuadrado's £36 million buyout clause, and Louis van Gaal wants the winger to feature against Swansea City in next weekend's opening Premier League fixture.
This has been reported by the Express, who have suggested that the Fiorentina ace will hold talks with his club's hierarchy today.
Cuadrado, who starred for Colombia at this summer's World Cup, looks set to be offered a new deal by Fiorentina, but it appears that the club will sell to the Red Devils if they meet the player's asking price.
And it appears that United are ready to pay the £36m asking price for the 26-year-old after they initially offered £32m for the player's services. United will, however, have to beat off competition from Spanish giants Barcelona, who have also been tipped to make a move for the World Cup star in recent time.
Manchester United fans will certainly be excited by the prospect of landing the Cuadrado after he impressed greatly throughput the summer, but it remains to be seen as to whether United can complete the deal in the coming week.
At 26, the versatile right-sided star is approaching the prime of his career, so could prove a major coup for United's new Dutch coach. And, with Van Gaal having installed a 3-5-2 system at the Theatre of Dreams, it appears that the Cuadrado could be used as the club's right-wing back for the 2014/15 season.
The Red Devils already have the likes of Antonio Valencia and Rafael da Silva competing for places down the right-hand side, but it now appears that the Colombian ace could become a key man for the club next term. United also have Ashley Young, who can play on both the right and the left hand side, but could do with added competition down the left after Luke Shaw signed for the club earlier this summer.
It certainly looks set to be a huge season for United, as the club enter another new era under Louis van Gaal. After last term's disastrous campaign, the Red Devils will be desperate to return to Europe's elite competition at the first time of asking.
With Shaw and Spanish star Ander Herrera signed, United fans will be hoping for a couple more purchases before next weekend's big kick-off, and it appears that one of Colombia's World Cup stars could be on his way to the Theatre of Dreams.
