You’ve heard it for weeks if you follow the NBA. Don’t worry we have heard it with you; but finally after many, many, many rumors Kevin Love is actually going to join LeBron James in Cleveland, according to reports.
What is the price for adding such a talent you say? This year’s number one draft pick, Andrew Wiggins, last year’s number one pick, Anthony Bennett (both of which are Canadians by the way), and the Cavaliers first round draft pick for next year.
It is a bit steep, but at the same time it isn’t. It’s tricky and very circumstantial; for example, because Cleveland is giving up it’s potential future (Wiggins, Bennett, and the pick) it may seem lopsided for a player like Love, who despite being an All-Star, has been injured a number of times right?
Not exactly, Love has given his word that he will also stick around and sign for a 5 year, $120 million dollar contract. BOOM! That is the sound of NBA teams everywhere who now not only need to watch out for the Cavs due to Kyrie Irving and 'King James,' but now Kevin Love.
The move immediately makes them a serious contender for a championship and with a shaky Eastern Conference with a uncertain Chicago Bulls team, a depleted Indiana team (due to the loss of Lance Stephenson and Paul George to injury), and a rebuilding New York team - the east is wide open. As to how this team may look on the court, I project the starting
five could look like this:
PG – Kyrie Irving
SG – Dion Waiters
SF – LeBron James
PF – Kevin Love
C – Anderson Varejao
That is a scary lineup on paper, and if the five of them can gel and play anything like last year, then the Cavs may be hoisting the championship trophy for the first time in their franchise’s history. For more on the LeBron, Love, or anything else NBA, you can click here.
