Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger looks to set to hand Alexis Sanchez, Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers competitive debuts at Wembley tomorrow afternoon, with Premier League champions Manchester City the opponents for a Community Shield clash with key absentees on both sides.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has given World Cup winning trio Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski an extended holiday and the German stars won't return to training until Monday morning, while Man City are missing eight first-team regulars including Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany.
World Cup exploits leave City depleted
Former Arsenal stalwart Bacary Sagna will also not feature against his former club, while Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is also not ready to make his City bow.
Wenger and Manuel Pellegrini will use the traditional curtain-raiser for the new campaign to give other squad players a chance to shine in their absence, with fringe strikers Stevan Jovetic and Yaya Sanogo well placed to take advantage on either side.
Sanchez the star attraction
Arsenal fans will no doubt be most excited to get a proper look at Sanchez though, with the Chilean possessing electric pace and the kind of clinical finishing that was badly lacking during crucial parts of last season at the Emirates.
£16m signing Chambers outshone Sanchez in last weekend's Emirates Cup though and as a result will likely start alongside Laurent Koscienly in the centre of defence, while City boss Pellegrini could give Brazilian summer signing Fernando a starting role in central midfield.
