Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti still wants Angel di Maria to stay at the Bernabeu and has spoken at length with the Argentine superstar twice on the phone this week to discuss his future.
That is according to L'Equipe, who believe Ancelotti is determined for Di Maria to turn down a £55m move to Manchester United and any lingering chances of a summer switch to Paris Saint-Germain to fight for his place at the Bernabeu this season.
Does Di Maria have a future in Madrid?
Di Maria returned to training with the Madrid first-team squad earlier this week, but things have changed in the Spanish capital since the energetic wing wizard was at the heart of Madrid's Champions League success last season.
Madrid have spent more than €105m on World Cup stars Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez during the close season, which has sent the rumour mill into overdrive over Di Maria's future with Los Blancos.
Financial Fair Play regulations surely mean Madrid have to balance the books with a blockbuster exit similar to Arsenal's £42.4m deal for Mesut Ozil last summer, with both Man United and Paris Saint-Germain taking a keen interest in Di Maria, arguably the most consistent performer in European club football over the last six months.
PSG stall as FFP finally hits
Madrid president Florentio Perez is ready to let Di Maria move on if he receives a bid in the region of £55m, but despite Man United reportedly tabling an offer in that ballpark in the last 48 hours Ancelotti is still dead set against his sale.
United's chances of closing a club-record transfer definitely increased earlier this week, with Paris Saint-Germain going public with a declaration that the Di Maria deal is simply to expensive for them after already shelling out just shy of £50m for David Luiz.
There's clearly an Ancelott-sized hurdle to negotiate for the Red Devils though, with the former Chelsea boss speaking to Di Maria at length on two separate occasions in effort to stop one his top performers jumping ship before the transfer window slams shut.
