Diego Costa scores solo wondergoal in Chelsea friendly

Diego Costa gave Chelsea fans a glimpse of what may lie ahead for them in the coming Premier League season with a terrific solo goal against Fenerbahce on Friday night.

Jose Mourinho’s side were playing in a three-team charity tournament in Turkey in support of the families of the victim of the Soma mining disaster, with Besiktas the other team in the trio.

All three teams played one another for 45 minutes at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in Istanbul and it was Besiktas who came out on top – Arsenal’s Champions League playoff opponents winning both their matches

However, the highlight of the evening was goal by the Stamford Bridge club’s £32million summer signing that sent them on their way to victory over Fenerbahce.

Costa picked up the ball about 35 yards out from goal just to the left of the area and accelerated past two opponents before slaloming through three more and finishing will a cool right foot shot across goal into the bottom corner.

Costa had a terrific record at Atletico Madrid but there have still been doubts about whether he will be a success at Chelsea after a disappointing end to last season and World Cup.

Injury dogged him through that period but he now looks as though those worries are behind him with what was a particularly energetic goal.
